Migrating Data in Netsparker Enterprise On-Premises

While using Netsparker Enterprise On-Premises, you may need to move to a new server. In that case, you can migrate your existing scan data and database. Doing so requires you to take careful steps.

There are three stages for this process:

  1. Backup of your database and Netsparker Enterprise's scan data.
  2. Re-Install Netsparker Enterprise On-Premises onto the new server.
  3. Transfer the scan files to the new server.
This instruction assumes that you installed Netsparker Enterprise On-Premises to the default location, which is C:\Program Files (x86). If not, please change the relevant step in the instruction accordingly.
Make sure that you have administrator privileges to carry out the data migration.

1. Backing Up Database and Scan Data

In order to migrate to a new server and continue using Netsparker Enterprise On-Premises with your existing data, you need to back up your database, first. To do so, you have to follow the instructions here.

If your database is in the cloud environment, you do not need to backup your database. You only need to provide the connection details while re-installing Netsparker Enterprise On-Premises.

Once you backup your database, then you can move on to the next step and back up your Netsparker scan files.

  1. Press the Windows logo key  + E.
  2. Paste the following address into the address bar: C:\Program Files (x86)\Netsparker Enterprise Web Application\App_Data\ScanData
  3. Back up your scan data.

2. Re-installing Netsparker Enterprise On-Premises

Once you backed up your database and scan data, you need to have a fresh install of Netsparker Enterprise On-Premises. To do this, follow the instructions in Installing and Configuring Netsparker Enterprise On-Premises.

Before the fresh installation, restore the database into the new system if your database was not in the cloud environment.

During the installation, Netsparker Enterprise On-Premises will prompt you to enter details about your database. You can enter the new data source, database name, etc. during the installation.

Starting from Netsparker Enterprise On-Premises 2.2, the installation wizard creates a secret key to encrypt your data. If you encrypted your data using the On-Premises 2.2, Netsparker Enterprise asks you to enter the secret key during the reinstallation. For further information, see Encryption Settings.

3. Transferring Copied Scan Data

After installing Netsparker Enterprise On-Premises, you need to restore the scan data to your new environment.

  1. Locate your backup scan files, then copy them.
  2. Press the Windows logo key  + E.
  3. Paste the following address into the address bar: C:\Program Files (x86)\Netsparker Enterprise Web Application\App_Data\ScanData
  4. Then, paste the backup scan.
